A mid-range shaver that mostly does what it says
I’ve been using the Braun Series 6 (62-G1200SI) for a few weeks now, replacing an older Series 5 that was on its last legs. I went for this one because I wanted something simple: cordless, wet and dry, and not insanely expensive. On paper, this ticks all those boxes: up to 60 minutes battery, waterproof, made in Germany, and you get a precision trimmer attachment in the box. It sounds like a pretty solid all-rounder.
In practice, it’s a decent shaver that does the job for daily use, but it’s not perfect. If you shave every day or every other day and your beard isn’t super thick, it’s fine. If you leave your beard for 3–4 days or have very dense hair, you’ll notice its limits pretty quickly. It can struggle on longer, flat-lying hairs and you end up going over the same area several times.
The other thing that stands out is the overall user experience. It’s comfortable enough on the skin, especially in Gentle mode, and the foil head glides well with foam or gel. But there are a few details that feel a bit cheap for the price: no plastic foil guard, a soft case that doesn’t let you charge inside, and a design that’s functional but nothing special. None of these are dealbreakers, but they’re the kind of small annoyances you remember every time you use it.
So overall, my first impression is: this is a solid, mid-range shaver that’s good for routine maintenance, not some miracle machine. If you keep your expectations realistic, you’ll probably be happy enough. If you’re expecting barbershop-level closeness or bulletproof reliability for years, you might want to think twice or look at higher-end models.
Value for money: decent, but not a bargain
On value, the Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI sits in a bit of an awkward spot. It’s not a low-end shaver, but it’s also not in the top-tier category like the Series 7 or 9. For the price, you get a comfortable daily shaver, a decent battery, full waterproofing, and a precision trimmer attachment. That’s a solid feature set, but nothing that really stands out as amazing value. It feels fairly priced rather than cheap.
Where it loses some points for me is the missing small things. No plastic foil guard, no charging stand, no extra foil, and only a soft case that doesn’t allow charging. None of these are huge on their own, but together they give off a bit of a cost-cutting vibe. When you’re spending decent money on a shaver, these details matter. Add in the fact that some users have reported early charging failures, and you start to question if the price shouldn’t be a bit lower or the kit a bit more complete.
Performance-wise, it’s good enough for most people who shave daily or every other day, especially if your beard is average in thickness. If you’re in that group, the price is probably acceptable, especially if you catch it on offer. You’re paying for a known brand, a made-in-Germany device, and a comfortable, skin-friendly shave rather than super close performance. If you expect it to handle week-long growth or super thick beards easily, you’ll be disappointed and feel like you overpaid.
So in short, value is decent but not outstanding. If you find it at a solid discount, it becomes a pretty good buy. At full price, I’d say it’s okay, but you might want to compare it to the previous Series 5 or look for deals on Series 7 models before deciding. There’s better performance out there if you’re willing to pay a bit more, and there are cheaper shavers if you just want something basic and don’t care about brand or comfort as much.
Design: practical, but not exactly exciting
Design-wise, the Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI is pretty plain. It’s a grey body with some rubberized areas for grip, a simple power button, and a separate button for switching between Turbo and Gentle modes. Nothing flashy, no chrome everywhere, just a practical-looking shaver. Personally, I don’t care much about how a shaver looks as long as it works, but if you’re into premium aesthetics, this one feels more “appliance” than “gadget”.
The head is a 2D Contour Adapt foil head, which basically means it tilts slightly to follow the shape of your face. It does move enough to handle the jawline and neck without feeling rigid, but it’s not as flexible as the higher Braun Series (like Series 7 or 9) that have more advanced pivoting heads. You can feel that when shaving under the chin: you need to adjust your angle a bit more manually and sometimes go over the same area twice.
The buttons are clear and easy to hit, even with wet hands. The Turbo/Gentle mode button actually makes a difference: Turbo speeds things up and feels better when your beard is a bit longer, while Gentle is genuinely softer on the skin. There’s a basic battery indicator that gives you a rough idea of how much juice is left, but it’s not a super detailed display. The whole body is fully washable, and you can rinse it directly under the tap, which is handy after a quick shave in the shower.
My main gripe with the design is the lack of a proper protective solution for the foil. The soft pouch is fine for trips, but if you just want to chuck the shaver in a drawer, there’s no simple plastic guard. Also, the case doesn’t let you charge while it’s protected, so you end up leaving it naked on the counter. Overall, the design is practical and easy to live with, but it feels a bit stripped-down and not especially premium for the price bracket.
Battery and charging: actually one of the strong points
The battery on this Braun Series 6 is one of the parts I actually liked the most. It uses a Li-Ion battery and Braun claims up to 60 minutes of cordless runtime. In real life, shaving every day for about 5–7 minutes, I easily got close to two weeks before needing to recharge. That’s in line with the claim and better than my older Series 5, which started to fade faster and had some weird charging behaviour. One of the Amazon reviewers even mentioned they switched from an S5 because of battery issues, and so far this one feels more stable.
The 5-minute quick charge is also handy. I tested this a couple of times: battery indicator was low, I plugged it in while brushing my teeth, and after those 5–10 minutes I had enough juice for a full shave. That’s good if you’re the kind of person who forgets to charge things until the last second. The downside is that, for safety reasons, you can only use it cordless, so you can’t just leave it plugged in and shave from the mains.
The charger has a 2-pin plug, so if you want to use it in a normal 3-pin UK socket, you’ll need a small adapter. In a bathroom shaver socket, it’s fine. The cable is long enough and not overly thick, so it doesn’t get in the way when plugged in. There’s no fancy charging stand, just a straightforward plug-in charger, which to me is fine. Less clutter on the sink.
Overall, battery life and charging are solid. If you travel a lot, you can throw it in your bag with the charger and you’re covered for a couple of weeks easily. Just keep in mind you can’t charge it inside the soft case and there’s no way to protect the foil while it’s charging on the counter. Performance-wise, though, the battery is one of the least problematic parts of this shaver, and I’d rate it pretty highly.
Comfort on the skin: good, especially in Gentle mode
On comfort, the Braun Series 6 does a pretty good job. I have fairly normal skin, not super sensitive but it does get red and irritated if a shaver is too aggressive, especially on the neck. With this one, using Gentle mode and shaving every day or every other day, I didn’t get much irritation. The foil feels smooth on the skin, and with a bit of shaving foam in the shower it glides nicely. If you’re switching from a cheap rotary shaver, you’ll probably notice it feels kinder to your skin.
Where it gets a bit less comfortable is when you shave after three or four days of growth. The foil struggles more to catch the longer hairs, especially the ones lying flat on the neck and along the jawline. You end up going over the same area several times, which kind of cancels out the comfort advantage. In Turbo mode it cuts faster, but you can feel more tugging and a bit more heat on the skin. It’s not painful, but it’s not super pleasant either, so for me this is clearly a daily or near-daily shaver, not one for weekly cleanups.
The 2D Contour Adapt head is okay, but you do need to pay attention to your angle. Under the chin and around the Adam’s apple, I had to stretch the skin and slow down to avoid missing patches. That’s fairly normal for foil shavers, but again, compared to higher-end Brauns, you can tell this one is more basic. On the cheeks and upper lip, though, it’s comfortable and reasonably quick, and I didn’t get any razor burn spots.
Overall, I’d say comfort is one of its better points, as long as you use it the way it’s clearly designed: frequent shaves, Gentle mode if your skin gets irritated, and maybe Turbo only when you’re in a rush or have slightly longer stubble. If you have very sensitive skin and tend to shave every day, this is a decent option. If you let your beard grow longer and then shave it off in one go, you’ll probably find it less comfortable and more frustrating.
Build and durability: feels solid, but some doubts from reviews
In hand, the Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI feels reasonably well built. It’s not super heavy at around 360 grams, but it doesn’t feel hollow or toy-like either. The rubberized grip areas give a secure hold, even when wet in the shower. The head clicks on and off firmly, and the buttons don’t feel wobbly. Being made in Germany is usually a good sign for Braun, and nothing on my unit feels like it’s going to fall apart immediately.
That said, durability is always something you only really see after months or years. One of the Amazon reviewers mentioned their unit stopped charging after about two months, which is not reassuring. Mine hasn’t shown that issue so far, but problems like that usually come from a batch issue or electronics fault. It’s hard to say if it’s a widespread problem or just a bad unit, but it’s something to keep in mind. If you buy it, I’d keep the receipt and register the warranty, just in case.
The foil and cutter block are wear parts, like on any foil shaver. Over time, you’ll need to replace them, and Braun usually recommends changing them every 18 months or so, depending on use. There’s no extra foil in the box, so that’s an additional cost down the line. The lack of a plastic foil guard doesn’t help here: if you accidentally knock the shaver or throw it unprotected in a bag, you’re more likely to damage the foil and need a replacement sooner. That’s honestly my biggest concern for long-term durability.
As for the waterproof claim, I’ve used it under running water and in the shower, and it handled that without any drama. No leaks, no weird noises, nothing. Rinsing it out is simple and keeps the head reasonably clean between deeper cleanings. Overall, I’d say build quality feels solid, but the combination of no foil guard and a couple of negative reviews about charging makes me a bit cautious. It doesn’t feel cheap, but I wouldn’t call it bulletproof either.
What you actually get in the box
Out of the box, the Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI is pretty straightforward. You get the shaver itself, a soft travel case, the charger with a 2-pin plug, a small cleaning brush, and the precision trimmer attachment. That’s it. No charging stand, no extra heads, and importantly, no plastic foil guard for the shaver head. For this price range, I expected at least a simple clip-on guard to protect the foil when it’s lying around or in a drawer.
The soft case is okay for travel, but it’s not hard-shell. Everything fits inside if you play a bit of Tetris with the charger and the trimmer, so it’s usable. The downside is you can’t charge the shaver while it’s in the case, which one of the Amazon reviewers also pointed out. So if you leave it plugged in on the bathroom counter, the foil is exposed and easy to knock or damage. It’s a small thing, but when you’ve just paid decent money for a shaver, it feels a bit cheap.
On the positive side, the unit feels reasonably solid in hand. The branding is low-key, and the box clearly states the main features: wet & dry, 60 minutes runtime, 100% waterproof, made in Germany. It doesn’t overpromise some fantasy shave; it’s pretty honest about being focused on comfort and daily use. The manual is basic but clear: how to switch between Turbo and Gentle mode, how to pop on the trimmer, how to rinse it under the tap, and the usual safety stuff about only using it cordless.
Overall, the package is functional but a bit bare-bones for the price. You get what you need to shave and trim, nothing more. If you’re okay with that and don’t care about stands, guards, or extra heads, fine. If you like a more complete kit with better protection for the foil, you might feel a bit short-changed when you open the box.
Shave quality: good for daily use, average on longer stubble
In terms of actual shaving performance, I’d call the Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI good but not mind-blowing. On a one-day beard, it gives a reasonably close shave. My cheeks and upper lip feel smooth enough, and for work or daily life it’s totally fine. It’s not as close as a proper wet razor, obviously, but that’s normal for this kind of shaver. You do need a few passes in some areas, but nothing excessive if you keep up with a daily routine.
Where it starts to show its limits is on two- to three-day stubble or if your beard hair is thick and grows in different directions. On my neck, where the hairs lie flat and swirl around a bit, it misses some of them unless I go slowly and change direction several times. One of the Amazon reviews mentioned it “missed the odd lying hair” and I’d agree with that. It doesn’t completely fail, but you do have to work for a clean result. On four-day growth, it feels underpowered and you’re better off trimming down first.
The Turbo mode does help speed things up, especially when the hair is a bit longer, but it still doesn’t turn this into a heavy-duty shaver. Gentle mode is noticeably softer but a bit slower; I used that most of the time because I prefer comfort over a tiny bit of extra speed. The precision trimmer attachment is fine for shaping sideburns and tidying a moustache line. It’s not a full beard trimmer, but for quick detailing it does the job. Swapping the heads is easy: they click on and off without much effort.
If I compare it to my old Series 5, I’d say this Series 6 is slightly better on battery and a bit more comfortable, but the closeness of the shave is roughly in the same league. If you want a super close finish or you have a very tough beard, you might want to look at a higher Braun series or keep a manual razor for final touch-ups. For average beards and regular use, it’s good enough, but it’s not going to blow you away in terms of closeness or speed.

Conclusion
Editor's rating
The Braun Series 6 62-G1200SI is a solid mid-range electric shaver that gets the basics right but doesn’t really go beyond that. It’s comfortable on the skin, especially in Gentle mode, and works best if you shave daily or every other day. The battery life is genuinely good, the quick charge is handy, and the waterproof design makes it easy to use in the shower and rinse under the tap. For an everyday, no-drama shave on a normal beard, it does the job.
On the downside, it’s not the strongest performer on longer or very dense stubble. You’ll find yourself going over the same areas multiple times, especially on the neck and jawline, and that can get a bit frustrating. The lack of a plastic foil guard and a more protective case feels like corner-cutting for the price, and a few user reviews mentioning charging issues don’t inspire huge confidence in long-term reliability, even if my unit has been fine so far.
I’d recommend this shaver if you: shave frequently, have average beard thickness, care more about comfort than ultra-close results, and like the idea of a waterproof, low-fuss device from a big brand. You should probably skip it if: you have a very tough beard, often shave several days’ growth at once, or want a fully loaded kit with stands and guards. Overall, it’s a good but not mind-blowing shaver that feels fairly priced when on sale, and just okay value at full retail.
